What is LTC? Concealed carry, or License to Carry (LTC) a concealed firearm, is the practice of carrying a firearm in public, in a concealed manner, on one's person or in close proximity. Almost every state in the US allows for concealed carry either permitless or with a permit.
Who can get a concealed carry permit? All 50 U.S. states have laws in place allowing citizens to carry concealed firearms. Some states have Consitutional Carry or shall-issue permit laws, while others make it more difficult with may-issue permit laws or no-issue laws.
Is Texas LTC valid in other states? 15 states honor a Texas concealed carry permit with full reciprocity. Another 22 states have partial reciprocity. Learn more about Texas concealed carry reciprocity.
How long does it take to get an LTC permit? How long will processing take?
The turnaround time for processing a concealed firearm license application is approximately 50 to 55 days.
Do I need to renew an LTC permit every year? The LTC permit is valid for 4 years. A renewal is valid for 5 years.
What types of firearms are allowed with a LTC permit? There are many types of firearms that are allowed. Here is list of firearms that are certified. https://oag.ca.gov/firearms/certified-handguns/search
Can I travel on an airplane with my LTC permit? You may transport firearms and ammunition, but not as a carry on. However you CAN transport the optics as a carry on!
What types of training is required to get a LTC permit? Section 26165 of the Penal Code
(2) The course shall include instruction on firearm safety, firearm handling, shooting technique, and laws regarding the permissible use of a firearm.
(3) The course shall include live-fire shooting exercises on a firing range and shall include a demonstration by the applicant of safe handling of, and shooting proficiency with, each firearm that the applicant is applying to be licensed to carry.
